Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q - What is the capacity of the Solicore battery?

A - Solicore offers (3) standard products in two form factors:

  1. 10 mAh  (25.75 mm x 29 mm)
  2. 14 mAh (25.75 mm x 29 mm)
  3. 25 mAh (48.75 mm x 23 mm)

Q - Are custom battery sizes and capacities available?

A - Yes, however, a partnership agreement is required.  Please contact a member of the Solicore Sales Team to discuss your requirements and determine project feasibility, as special conditions apply.

Q - Does Solicore offer a secondary (rechargeable) battery?

A - Our current Flexion products are primary cells only and are therefore not rechargeable.

Q - How thin are Solicore’s batteries?

A - All Flexion batteries are less than 0.450 mm thick.

Q - What is the operating temperature of the Flexion cell?

A - (-10°C to 60°C)

Q - What is the expected shelf-life of the battery?

A - Shelf-life is dependent upon battery type and storage temperature and conditions.  For cells stored at or below room temperature, expected shelf-life is 3 years for 10mAh and 14mAh cells, and 2 years for 25mAh cells.  Prolonged exposure to temperatures that exceed room temperature will detrimentally affect batteries.  For extended storage in a refrigerated area, Solicore recommends the use of vapor proof packaging to prevent moisture egress.

Q - What is the monthly self-discharge of the battery?

A - Self-discharge is dependent upon battery type and storage temperature and conditions.  At room temperature, self-discharge is:

  • <1% for 25x29 cells
  • <1.25% for 48x23 cells

Q - What is the expected useful life of the battery?

A -Battery life is dependent on the power profile and operating conditions of the device you are powering.  Solicore can assist you with projecting product life.  To discuss your application in more detail with a technical representative, please complete the Battery Applications Questionnaire (LINK HERE).

Q - How can the Solicore battery be attached to an electronic circuit?

A - The dual copper battery terminal design of Flexion products enables a variety of attachment methods.  These include soldering, conductive z-axis tape, conductive epoxy and ultrasonic welding.  Once a customer establishes an MNDA with Solicore, more detailed technical information is available regarding this topic.

Q - Can Flexion batteries survive the hot lamination process?

A - Yes, Solicore batteries have been successfully integrated into hot lamination processes with temperatures up to 135°C.

Q - Do Flexion batteries meet ISO standards for bend and flexibility testing?

A - Yes, Solicore cells pass all ISO bend and flexibility testing and are ISO 7816 Certified.

Q - Are Solicore batteries RoHS compliant?

A - Unlike many coin cell batteries, Solicore batteries do not contain RoHS restricted/controlled materials.  Furthermore, unlike conventional “liquid or gel-cells”, Solicore’s patented technology is dry, making it very safe and extremely flexible.

Q - How do I obtain samples?

A - You may order samples of our 10mAh, 14mAh or 25mAh products.  The first step is to establish a Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (MNDA).  Please submit the following information about your company:

  • Full, legal name of company
  • Address of company
  • Phone
  • Fax
  • Email
  • Incorporated (Yes / No)
  • If yes, what is the State / Country of incorporation
  • Full name and title of Company Officer signing the MNDA

Upon receipt of this information, Solicore will prepare the MNDA and send it to you for review and signature.  Upon final execution of the MNDA, a member of our sales team will contact you to discuss your specific application and product pricing in more detail.  Please note that without an MNDA, we will not be able provide samples, pricing or detailed technical information.

Q - Can Solicore help me identify other component suppliers?

A - Yes.  Once a customer establishes an MNDA with Solicore, they have access to Solicore’s extensive network of partners in areas such as flexible displays, semiconductors, lamination services, attachment services, etc.  Solicore can also refer you to full design & integration service providers.
