SOLICORE ENERGIZES JAPANESE POWERED CARD MARKET

Earliest Adopters of Advanced Technology Partner with Thin-Film Battery Pioneer

Lakeland, Fla.—November 13, 2007—Viewed as the world’s most innovative nation, Japan not only has the highest number of patents per person according to The Economist magazine[1], but also is known for consistently and instantaneously absorbing breakthrough technologies developed worldwide. Specifically, the Japanese immediately welcomed the Smart Card industry, implementing these devices for a variety of uses, and achieved a highly developed market stage which, according to Frost & Sullivan, grew 30.5 percent in 2006.

Solicore, maker of the paper-thin Flexion® battery, has accelerated the Japanese Smart Card market by securing strategic partnerships with recognized local distributors, including Asia Industry Development (AID) and Tomoe Engineering Co. Ltd.   Solicore, with the help of AID and Tomoe, is already engaged with 15 accounts.

“There is no doubt that the Japanese are seen as the earliest adopters of any new technology and are constantly looking to push the envelope to answer consumers’ needs,” says Solicore CEO David Corey. “The enthusiastic reception from Japanese clients for Solicore’s portfolio of products, including a commercial order within 2 months of penetrating this market, demonstrates the power of our pioneering and forward-thinking technology.”

Solicore is well-known for its ultra-thin lithium polymer Flexion® batteries for embedded power solutions. At less than a half millimeter thick, Flexion batteries meet the diverse needs of the growing market, with the ability to power a wide range of card-style security devices and other innovative and portable goods.

Solicore’s partnerships within Japan have positioned the company to parallel the rapid growth the Japanese Smart Card industry is experiencing and is expected to face. “We project that the market will continue to expand into an even greater variety of applications over the next three to five years and the industry, not only in Japan, but worldwide, is poised for tremendous growth,” says Corey.

Japan is one of several entry points into Asia for Solicore. They have also recently broken into the Powered Card markets in China and Korea, the latter of which is currently experiencing a boom as they race to comply with government security mandates. For more information about Solicore’s strategic partnerships, visit www.solicore.com.
